IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Somnus Lucis Caelum
Species: Human/decreased.
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Near canon-end, when Noctis sits the throne and summons the Kings of Yore.
Character Age: 2030-something.
CRAU: N/A
CRAU Explanation: N/A
Character Appearance: 5'10", blue eyes, black hair, pale, lean-but-muscular. Somnus dresses in fantasy!ancient!Rome garb, from wearing tunics with a chlamys or toga draped over it. Here is a gif
Powers and Abilities:
» » » » Armiger. This is the canon's equivalent of hammerspace. He stores a (generic, unnamed) spear, as well as the Blade of the Mystic within, although he can store other items within as well.  He is proficient in using these weapons, but should they break, he's down to brawl with his bare fists.
» » » »  Warping/warp-striking, phasing. Throwing his weapon, Somnus can warp along and towards the trail of his weapon. Phasing (basically dodging, but ~magically~) allows him to side-step attacks in a mystical fashion.
» » » »  Barrier-making. Somnus can construct a barrier made of magic about him.
» » » » Elemancy. Another facet of the magic he wields is the use of manipulating/conjuring elemental magics. Fire, lightning, and ice attacks are all part of his arsenal.
» » » »  Potion/elixir making. Somnus, using his power, can infuse drinks with magic to make restorative and curative properties.
» » » »  Sharing powers.  Somnus can imbue others with his magic, should he so choose.
» » » »  Mystic's Sigil aka a magic spell specific to him. Sigil wiki entry! The Mystic's is at the bottom. Basically, he creates a sort of mini/confined black gravity well to do damage and draw in enemies to a single point, where they can be more easily attacked.
» » » » Lucii-form. This is the form he takes for most of his appearance in Kingsglaive as well as the DLC. He appears as a giant, armored statue as depicted here. If this power to transform into a Lucii state is regained, it's probably going to be shurnk to an appropriate size.
» » » » Ghost. Canonically, Somnus (when not in his armored form), is only a spirit! In the game, it's shown that his armor can dissolve and Somnus' spirit can appear instead. As a ~g-g-ghoooost~, Somnus is partially translucent, glows, and can vanish at-will.
» » » » For this game: since he will be depowered like everyone, he's just going to be in a human body. Mortal, flesh-and-blood, and with all of its limitations

What Did Your Character Wish For? For the Light to be restored to his world.
What Potion Did They Receive? Red potion, elemental powers: electric.
Did They Drink It? As of the TDM he's been holding off for now. Happy to accept any consequences that come with it, but if accepted I do plan on having him drink it.

Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
Ardyn, his brother. From an early age, the two were nearly inseparable. As they grew into adulthood, the further they grew apart. The gods blessed Ardyn with the power to heal the Starscourge, making him lauded. Somnus was not. The only means he could protect others was to slay the Scourge's daemons. The brothers were at opposite ideals. Ardyn wished to heal those afflicted by the Scourge, but Somnus saw that his healing could not combat the rate at which the Scourge devastated the ancient world. For every person healed, more would succumb to blight or be slaughtered. Under dire circumstances, with no means, resources, or manpower to effectively contain the daemons, Somnus set out to vanquish them indiscriminately.

As it turns out, Ardyn's "healing" was simply transferring the Scourge from others unto himself, absorbing the corruption. This was for the gods' plan to work: concentrate the Scourge onto a single person, then shatter their soul with Scourge ages after. The other plan's half was to gather the appropriate counter-power by concentrating the souls of the kings and the light they accumulated in the Ring. With their power, wielded by Noctis, only then could the Scourge end. This would be done by means of sacrifice-- all the kings, including Somnus, Noctis, and Ardyn.

Even if it was not Somnus' fault that Ardyn was cursed, he had betrayed him-- between the two of them, Ardyn had a far worse fate. Because he was corrupted by the Scourge, Somnus wiped his name from most of history and imprisoned him on an island, cruelly, believing that if he was released, he would cause incredible amounts of destruction. Somnus owes Ardyn everything, from a deep, sincere apology, to freeing him. Since Somnus is abysmal at the former, he trudges on in working towards the latter. The only means of "freeing" his brother from his curse is to fulfill the Prophecy.

2. What are they most afraid of?
The Prophecy is nearly over. Thus, what he fears most is failure, that despite all sacrifices and suffering, it will not be fulfilled. To fail means all Kings will remain as spirits, trapped by the Ring; that his brother will not know peace, remaining an immortal bound to suffer the Starscourge; their Star will be in an Endless Night, its future forfeit.

He feels for the suffering of his family; however, Somnus recognizes that there is something more important than all of them.  Eos is currently under the complete veil of the Scourge. Without light, crops falter, livestock perish, and resources thin. There is neither natural means to stave off daemons as they advance on the dilapidated strongholds, nor respite with dawn to recuperate. The last vestiges of humanity will crumble, slowly, brutally, until none remain.

Saving the world outweighs all, desperately. He is aware that the price of Noctis' life will mean salvation. It will end Somnus' life, as well as Ardyn's. Still knowing this, Somnus encourages Noctis to march toward the throne room.

3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically?
Intense, ruthlessness efficiency, disconnected. Not personable.  Somnus acted on what (he believed) was necessary-- including eventually turning against his brother. As Ardyn became physically corrupted by the Scourge, Somnus branded him as a monster before the nobility. When he at last subdued Ardyn, Somnus' emotions were all but curbed, and no satisfaction appeared to cross his expression: Ardyn was cursed despite all initially believing that he had been blessed.

As king, he tamed the Scourge by pyrrhic victory, later building the foundation of Lucis. Upon death, his soul would be taken into the purgatory of the Ring of the Lucii. The true task of Lucis was to restore the light to their world and rid their world of the scourge. His Line would experience tragedy throughout, taxed by their duty. Art depicts the term "martyr-king" is engraved on marble walls, meaning that all monarchs knew duty called for sacrifice. As Founder King and the first of the Lucii, Somnus perpetuated the cruel means of this prophecy. He saws the suffering it caused, yet still saw it as a need to save their world. The blame is on him, and he accepts it-- because to question the Draconian would mean to suffer more.

Later, Somnus expressed sympathy for the suffering Ardyn had endured at both the Prophecy and his own hands. Adhering to duty, Somnus asked not for forgiveness (for who rightly could ask for such a thing when one continued down the cruel-but-necessary Prophecy's path), but for understanding this task. Ardyn denied him, which Somnus accepted.

4. What would make them happiest?
Somnus sees fulfilling the prophecy as the only way Ardyn-- and the rest of their family-- may rest. His hope for saving their Star lies now with Noctis.

Existing for so long as a spirit, he has become emotionally disconnected and blunt. He rarely explains himself or believes a king needs to. To show remorse or guilt would mean little when the past is set. Yet by far the heaviest weight upon his mind is his brother's suffering, how Somnus had clashed with him in the past, and the price Noctis will have to pay. Nevertheless, he marches onward toward that future, thus continuing to condemn his family to the prophecy.  While he cares for them, again: the world is more important, and this is the only means that will save it. Thus, he will be happiest when he knows the light is restored.

5. What’s their type for a lover?
For someone who is as cold and severe as he is,  Somnus' "type" would be one who is gentle, compassionate, and caring. He's spent years within the gaol of the Ring, only called forth when there was a need to fight. He watched the world as it became embroiled in conflicts. After ages of this, what Somnus craves most in an intimate connection is sincerity, heartfelt softness. The world has many who are cynical, jaded, and disillusioned, but to remain kind despite everything? That is what Somnus admires.
